A Community of Harvesters

Working Waterfront,

Supporting Fishermen and Aquaculture

It’s in the name: Community Shellfish. We believe in the importance of Maine’s working waterfront and aquaculture industry. There is a vast network of small independent growers and fishermen we think need more time in the spotlight and we are striving to provide that.

It is our goal to utilize the wholesale and retail networks that we have developed through clam, lobster and oyster sales to make it easy to get a product to market and create recognizable brand names

Lobstermen

An important part of our philosophy is being a cornerstone of our community. Our harbor and stone dock provide the infrastructure to support 50+ local lobstermen and stern-men and women. All lobsters fished by these boats is bought at a fair market price, plus a bonus for the lobstermen at the end of each year. This ensures we have access to the beautiful lobsters of the Muscongus Bay and makes sure these hard-working men and women are compensated properly - people over profit.

Clam Harvesters

The same philosophy we treat our lobstermen with, applies to the clam harvesters. Over 40 diggers provide the backbreaking work necessary for us to sell some of the finest steamer clams in Maine. The majority of these get processed by our wonderful team of shuckers. These processed clams are sent all over Northern New England for those delicious fried clams. Our steamers are also a customer favorite.
